Natural Stone · Solara Volcanic Stone
Volcanic Basalt from Morocco · 15 SKUs · Frost & Slip Resistant
Solara is Stonemade's volcanic stone collection — a dense basaltic rock formed from ancient lava flows in Morocco's volcanic regions. Its characteristic dark grey-to-black spectrum, extremely low porosity, and superior slip resistance make it the preferred specification for high-performance exterior applications: pool decks, hotel terraces, commercial entrances, and outdoor kitchens. With 15 SKUs and exceptional freeze-thaw durability, Solara performs where other stones fail.

Yes — volcanic basalt is one of the best materials for pool surrounds. Its R11 slip-resistance rating, near-zero porosity (< 0.1% absorption), and chemical resistance to chlorinated water make it superior to most limestone options for wet environments. The Split finish provides maximum grip while maintaining an architectural aesthetic.
Extremely well. Basalt's near-zero porosity means virtually no water ingress — the primary cause of frost damage in porous stones. Solara volcanic stone withstands 300+ freeze-thaw cycles without surface degradation (tested per ASTM C666), making it suitable for all US climate zones including USDA Zone 3.
All three are volcanic basalt from the same Moroccan quarries — the difference is color intensity. Solara is dark grey with warm mineral undertones. Montain Black is near-black with cold undertones. Montain Grey is a lighter basalt with visible crystalline texture. All share identical technical performance specifications.
