The Morocco-US Free Trade Agreement (MAFTA), officially in effect since January 1, 2006, eliminates import duties on natural stone products classified under HTS code 6802. This bilateral treaty — ratified by both the US Senate and Moroccan Parliament — is not an executive order and cannot be revoked unilaterally. For stone industry professionals, this means Moroccan limestone, marble, and travertine enter the United States at 0% duty, while competitors from Turkey, China, India, and even the EU face standard MFN rates.
HTS 6802 covers 'Worked monumental or building stone and articles thereof, except slate.' This includes cut-to-size tiles, pavers, slabs, coping, and treads — essentially all finished natural stone products used in construction. Under MAFTA's rules of origin, stone quarried and processed in Morocco qualifies automatically.
